The Makurdi Green Cup: Commemorating WED 2026
Initiative for Socioeconomic and Ecological Advancement (ISEA), in collaboration with Environment and Climate Change Amelioration Initiative (ECCAI), Angel Support Foundation (ASF), GoGreen Environmental Health Sustainability Initiative, and DevTrain Community Entrepreneurship Development Initiative, commemorated World Environment Day 2026 with the Makurdi Green Cup football tournament held at Makurdi International Secondary School.

The event combined football with environmental education, providing a platform to engage learners on environmental protection, climate action, and practical steps for mitigating the effects of climate change. Observed under the theme "Inspired by Nature," the 2026 celebration focuses on advancing scalable climate solutions and strengthening ecosystem resilience. Activities featured environmental awareness talks, tree planting within the school premises, and football matches in both the male and female categories. Certificates were presented to all participating players, while outstanding teams received trophies and cash prizes. Makurdi International Secondary School was also honoured with a commemorative plaque in recognition of its role as host of another edition of the Makurdi Green Cup tournament, which has previously hosted by Unique Secondary School, Government Model College, and TES B Secondary School.
